Piece/Folio 1757/117 Page:29 Individual Record for Charles Thorne at Familysearch.org Late Shoreditch Industrial School Shoreditch Industrial School was built by the Shoreditch Trustees of the Poor in 1854 for 300 workhouse children of St. Leonard's Parish, Shoreditch (London). In 1877 it came under the new school district of Shoreditch and Hackney. When the district was dissolved in 1885 Hackney union took over the school, which continued as a branch institution. In 1894, the school was the subject of a scandal when dreadful cases of cruelty came to light. Resulting in one of the female officials being sent to prison. The site later became St Faith's Hospital, but has now been completely redeveloped as office accommodation. |
